Genus Carrhotus described by Bohdanowicz and Proszynski, 1987

Systematic studies on East Palaearctic Salticidae (Araneae), IV. Salticidae of Japan

Genus Carrhotus Thorell 1891
The genus contains two widespread species: rather Palaearctic - C.xanthogramma and Oriental C.viduus (C.L.Koch) which is the type-species. The only species described by the author of the genus - "Carrhotus " tristis Thorell, 1895 from Burma appears to be not related to the type-species and should be transferred to another genus. Other species described from Java, Ceylon and Africa are poorly known and have not been revised by us. (Bohd. and Prosz.,1987)

on the KARSCH's specimen (from Proszynki, 1973) as belows;
Hasarius crinitus Karsch, 1879: 86 et auct. Seq. (syn.@Proszynski 1973b: 100)
The present condition of KARSCH's specimens makes detailed redescription impossible. The general appearance of a female is shown in fig.8, its cheliceral dentition in fig.9, the structure of epigynum in figs.10-12, The male copulatory organ is mounted on a permanent microscopic slide (DAHL's preparation) in a rather inconvenient for examination ; some details of tis structure are given in figs.13-14.
